A Book Narrative with 1K1M. Istanbul. Memories and the City | Orhan Pamuk
BACK
This special book talk, held at Zeyrek Çinili Hamam, invites participants to reflect on the memory of the city and its narrative layers through Orhan Pamuk’s Istanbul. Memories and the City.
Taking place in the hamam’s cold room, the gathering approaches Istanbul not only in its present form but also through traces of the past, personal recollections, and shared narratives. Pamuk’s ways of remembering and writing the city form the starting point of the conversation, while the historically layered atmosphere of Zeyrek Çinili Hamam offers a strong spatial context for reflection.
Over the course of the evening, which unfolds as a kind of memory walk through the city, Pamuk’s Istanbul is accompanied by the perspectives of other figures who have shaped the city’s cultural imagination, including Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Reşat Ekrem Koçu, Ahmet Rasim, and Melling.
The event begins at 19.00 with a brief introduction, followed by a guided discussion led by Duygu Özdemir. Shaped by participants’ contributions, the conversation will last approximately one and a half hours.
