FROM ZEYREK ÇİNİLİ HAMAM TO LEİGHTON HOUSE: THE JOURNEY OF THE TİLES
Once part of Zeyrek Çinili Hamam, a selection of its İznik tiles can today be found on the walls of the iconic Arab Hall at Leighton House in London.
How did these tiles travel from 16th-century Istanbul to Victorian London, and what stories do they carry with them?
Art historian, author and academic Dr. Melanie Gibson will explore the remarkable journey of these tiles in conversation with Anlam de Coster, Artistic Director of Zeyrek Çinili Hamam. The conversation will trace their passage across centuries and geographies, while considering the histories of collecting and cultural exchange that connect Zeyrek Çinili Hamam and Leighton House.
The conversation will be held in English and will be followed by a book signing of Gibson’s latest publication, The Arab Hall, Frederic Leighton: Traveller and Collector.
