HAMMAM

Bathe in History

The Bathing Ritual

For centuries, Ottoman hammams have been spaces of ritual and renewal, offering physical and spiritual purification while nurturing social bonds and a sense of community.

Within the warm marble chambers of the hammam, the body softens in heat and steam, warm water flows, and skilled attendants perform cleansing and massage that leave the skin renewed and the senses calm. Beneath the starry domes, the ritual unfolds slowly, inviting time to pause and the body to fully surrender to warmth and rest.

At Zeyrek Çinili Hamam, this Ottoman tradition meets contemporary comfort, offering a timeless experience where heritage, wellbeing, and quiet luxury come together.

Zeyrek Çinili Hamam is unique in placing creativity and craftsmanship at the forefront of the bathing experience, working in collaboration with leading contemporary artists and designers. Renowned fashion designer Hussein Chalayan has created a bespoke collection of towels and garments, inspired by the building’s architectural details. Throughout the baths, guests will find marble furniture by the Athens-based artist Theodore Psychoyos and site-specific sculptures. Meanwhile ceramics by Santimetre Studio are used to serve food, tea and seasonal sherbets, enjoyed in the cold room after bathing.

Bespoke Bathing Celebrations

The hammam has long been a place of gathering and celebration. From bridal and groom’s hammams to birthdays and special occasions, celebratory rituals bring people together through shared bathing experiences—offering a meaningful way to mark moments together.

The Hammam Tradition

Beyond bathing, the hammam has long served as a shared place for care, gathering, and preparation for significant moments alongside ordinary routines.

The hammam was never only a place for bathing. In the past, it was a shared space where daily life and important moments intersected. Visitors came to bathe, but also to rest, socialize, and mark life’s transitions. Rituals surrounding birth, marriage, and preparation for significant occasions took place here alongside everyday visits. Time moved more slowly in the hammam, allowing people to linger and spend time together. Bathing here was both personal care and social practice, a tradition that continues today in contemporary form.
