This special book talk, held at Zeyrek Çinili Hamam, invites participants to reflect on the memory of the city and its narrative layers through Orhan Pamuk’s Istanbul. Memories and the City .

Zeyrek Çinili Hamam will be hosting a new series of talks. Focusing on the book Barbarossa’s Çinili Hamam: A Masterpiece by Sinan , published concurrently with the opening of the hammam, the talks joined by the authors in the book will explore the various aspects of the hammam. Hosted by the book’s editors Aslı Özbay and Aykut Şengözer, the talks will take place between January 20–February 24, 2024 at the men’s cold room of Zeyrek Çinili Hamam. Visitors who arrive 30 minutes before the talk will have the opportunity to take a short tour in the hammam. Offering experts’ historical, socio-cultural and architectural perspectives on Zeyrek Çinili Hamam, these talks will also be an opportunity to experience the hammam’s architecture before it opens for bathing in April 2024

The third and final exhibition talk for Healing Ruins brings exhibition artists Cecilia Granara and Lara Ögel together. Hosted by exhibition’s curator Anlam de Coster, the talk titled “Transformation Rituals” will focus on the artists’ own practices, transformation and alchemical rituals as well as the symbolic realm of the hammam.

The second exhibition talk for Healing Ruins brings one of the exhibition’s artists Ahmet Doğu İpek, historian of architecture Prof. Zeynep Kuban Tokgöz and architect Nevzat Sayın together. Hosted by the exhibition’s curator Anlam de Coster, the talk titled “ Stones and Spolia ” traces the story of Ahmet Doğu İpek’s site-specific “Spolia” series created for Healing Ruins as well the spolia materials in the history of architecture.

Exhibition talks for Healing Ruins start on November 9. Hosted by the exhibition’s curator Anlam de Coster, author and curator Elâ Atakan and Şenol Ayla, host of the radio program “Didik Didik Freud” and author of the book with the same title (both with Serol Teber) will explore the psychoanalytic and archeological aspect of the exhibition at the talk titled “Excavating Healing Ruins”.
